Forest School Autumn Term Yr R

This term we have focused on the popular children’s stories that Mr Dineen has been reading in the classroom, taking them into our Forest School site, with a twist! We started by identifying features on the Gruffalo’s face and collecting natural materials to recreate our own version.  The children enthusiastically used feathers, pinecones and leaves to press into clay to make Gruffalo faces on trees around Forest School.  After discussions about the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’, the children decided that the best house to build in the forest would be a stick house.  They worked well in teams to build a strong structure that we couldn’t blow down, however hard we tried! Having had great fun in the classroom with visits from the naughty Gingerbread Man, we decided to build our own obstacle trail, using natural materials found around the forest.  The gingerbread men had to travel through log tunnels, over stick bridges, stepping stones and slalom courses to escape the little old woman and the little old man, who were chasing them! The class have shown incredible resilience in bracing the great outdoors in all weathers.  Please can you assist their enjoyment by continuing to provide them with plenty of layers, hats, snoods, waterproof gloves and extra socks on their Forest School days.

Wishing you all a restful break over the festive season.
