Mix & Match for World Book Day

World Book Day got off to a great start at Brill this morning, with ‘Books Over Breakfast!’ We were delighted to be joined by so many parents and carers, who shared books with the children over pastries and juice. The atmosphere was wonderful and the children thoroughly enjoyed the time to relax and explore different books with family members.

Following this, author and illustrator, Nick Sharratt delivered a live online workshop just for the children of Brill! Our theme this year was ‘Mix & Match’ where children and staff blended story book characters to create mixed costumes, based on the book ‘You Choose’. Nick joined in with our ‘Mix’n’Match’ dress up day; he was dressed as a Viking and Mr Pope (from Shark in the Park). He taught us how to draw pictures from the books we have been reading in class such as Shark in the Park, You Choose, Viking in the Supermarket and characters from a range of his fairy tales! Staff and pupils drew along step-by-step as he showed us what to do. We loved learning from Nick Sharratt and were inspired by his work. Next week, the children will be writing and illustrating their own stories in his style, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with!
