Stewardship at Brill
At Brill Church of England School, we believe that caring for our world is part of our responsibility as global citizens and as stewards of God’s creation.
Through our Christian vision, With the wind in our sails, we shall live ‘life in all its fullness‘, we encourage children to think carefully about how their choices affect the people, places and environments around them. We want our pupils to understand that even small actions can make a positive difference.
We believe that helping children care for the world around them develops many of the qualities of The Brill Child:

Eco Schools
As an Eco School, we help our children explore environmental issues in meaningful, practical and age-appropriate ways.
Through the Eco Schools programme, pupils learn about important themes including:
- Biodiversity
- Energy
- Waste and Recycling
- Water
- Transport
- Healthy Living
- School Grounds
- Litter
- Marine Environments
- Global Citizenship
Rather than feeling overwhelmed by global challenges, we encourage children to focus on the actions they can take within our school, homes and community.
Our Eco Council
Our Eco Council is made up of pupils from across the school who are passionate about caring for the environment and making a difference.
Working together, council members:
- Identify areas for improvement.
- Gather ideas from their peers.
- Lead environmental projects.
- Promote sustainable practices across the school.
- Encourage everyone to play their part.
Through this leadership role, children learn that their voice matters and that they can help bring about positive change.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Environmental responsibility is woven throughout school life.
Children have opportunities to develop their understanding through:
- Outdoor learning experiences
- Brill Horizons projects
- Science and geography learning
- Collective worship and reflection
- Community initiatives
- Sustainability projects around the school site
These experiences help pupils develop a deeper appreciation of the natural world and their role in protecting it.
Looking to the Future
We are proud to have achieved the Eco Schools Green Flag, recognising our commitment to environmental awareness and action.
