Week Commencing 22nd Jan – Spring 1 2024

On Monday we explored the school grounds to see what animal tracks we could find. We found rabbit burrows, mole hills, birds nests and bird footprints.

We have also been looking at the different woodland animals that we know of and have been doing some observational drawings of different animals. This is a very important skills as we are drawing what we can see and trying not to add anything else.

We have been working hard on our part whole models and looking at what numbers make up 1 – 5. We have been doing practical activities as well as abstract, challenging our brains.

We explored the Arctic environment and created our own Arctic habitat using shaving foam, cotton wool and glitter.

As it is approaching Chinese New Year we have been learning about the story and the different animals. We now know that this Chinese New Year is the year of the Dragon! We are very excited for our Chinese New Year celebration day next week.

We have learnt lots of new sounds – long ‘oo’, short ‘oo’, ‘ar’ and ‘or’. We now have a ‘phonics password’ in our classroom, which we have to say in order to be able to leave the classroom. This is great for recall and recap of our learning.

We have been learning animal names in French. Un hibou bebes is baby owls. We have learnt this in preparation for the visit from the different birds.

We have been doing owl collages, writing simple sentences and been practising our spelling.

We have also learnt about different animal types and have been introduced to mammals and fish. We have learnt lots of facts – challenge the children at home by asking if they can remember any of these.

We have had another fantastic week and we are so excited for next week!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss S 😊
