Year 6 Topical Talk

In the Spring term, Year 6 pupils have been taking part in The Topical Talks Festival, organised by The Economist foundation for Education. Each week, the children explore a new topic that is making the headlines in the news and research, debate and challenge their thinking on it. They can engage with other pupils across the world on a safe online platform and understand different perspectives. They have all really enjoyed the conversations so far and we have been impressed by their ability to tackle such complex subjects.
Just before half-term we put our detective caps on, and looked into how a dangerous gang leader in Ecuador had escaped from prison and how this was connected to a bigger problem around the justice system. The children worked in groups and made investigation boards with strings to link their clues and ideas, and then debated on the possible failures of the system, and the purpose of prisons.
This half-term, we’re going to explore Business & politics, women in media and the election in India.

Looking forward to Friday and the business & politics topic.
